Season opens on Saturday at 7 vs. Newcastle!
The bikes roar back into action this weekend at Shielfield Park with the Berwick "KLS" Bandits (Powered by Mike Hope of Wooler) taking on the Newcastle "Boiler Technical Services" Diamonds in the traditional opener, the Tyne/Tweed Trophy with the Bandits desperate to regain the trophy Newcastle won last year after a thrilling 45-45 draw at Shielfield Park and a home 55-45 win at Brough Park the day after.
The first leg this year sees tapes up on Saturday night at Shielfield Park at 7 o'clock with Bandits' co-promoter, Scott Courtney hoping his lads can go one better than last season's first leg draw, saying: "This is our second year running the Bandits in their 51st season and its fair to say we learned a lot of lessons last term, but we start with a solid set of seven, all very capable of raising their initial match average and that should mean for an exciting season.
"That season starts tonight and we're going for the win, no doubt about that although I think we and Newcastle are pretty evenly matched so we're in for some excellent racing. New Swede John Lindman makes his UK debut for us tonight and at our practice on Thursday he looked very tidy, well accomplished and fast, so we cannot wait to see him in racing action.
"Our number one, Aaron Summers had a mixed session and blew his number one engine in his first outing, so he will be hungry for points to pay for the repairs, and its hunger that drives these guys, and with Jye Etheridge and Dany Gappmaier at reserve, that gives us a great base to work from, mind you Newcastle have a decent pair of reserves too!"
The second leg is a Brough Park on Sunday at 6.30pm.
