Berwick’s speedway Bandits have signed up 2009 Premier League Riders’ Champion Ricky Ashworth as a replacement for their currently-injured Australian Kozza Smith.

Now comes even worse news, as 18-year-old Brenton Barnfield – of whom much is being hoped for by the Berwick promotion in the coming British season – has been injured, possibly seriously, during yesterday’s Australian Under-21 Championship event at Kurri-Kurri, NSW.

A week of frantic market-trading has seen Berwick’s A&J Scott-sponsored speedway Bandits complete their seven-man squad for 2012 by confirming the name of 18-year-old Brenton Barnfield, from Mildura, Australia, as the final piece in their team-building jigsaw.

Berwick’s A & J Scott Bandits have snapped up their first new face for the 2012 season, providing the club – and especially their ultra-hard-working team manager Ian Rae – a welcome early Christmas present. The club announced today that 23-year-old Czech Filip Sitera will be appearing in Premier League racing for the first time as a Bandit.
